Worm farming workshop – 25th November

Kaitaia KaiBox and Te Hiku Maara Kai Community Garden are organising this half day morning workshop (see Facebook event) run by local worm farm expert Pat Naidu. Pat, a commercial worm farmer for 25 years, has regularly run workshops for schools, garden centres and community groups.

Learn about the different types of worms, worm farms both bought and homemade, and how to look after your worms. Pat will also cover what to feed them (and what not to!), troubleshooting, and how to make the most of the by-products from your worm farm – the vermicast and worm wee.

After covering the theory there will be an opportunity to see Pat’s various set ups with plenty of time for questions. Then you’ll get an opportunity for some hands on practical work helping set up a worm farm in an old bath at Te Hiku Maara Kai Community Garden.

Participants will get the opportunity to purchase Kiwi Earthworm Composters ($60) and worms ($25).

Limited places available, so enrolment is essential

When: Saturday 25th November, 10am – 1pm

Cost: $5
