Rag rugging – a great way to upcycle!

Got a load of old clothes you can’t bear to part with? Or clothing only fit for rags? Turn them in to a rag rug! On Monday afternoon (12th June) 2-4pm at the EcoCentre local artist Jen Gay will teach the basic skills you need to produce something beautiful out of old t-shirts etc. If you haven’t got the colours you want at home check out the many op shops and the market on Saturday for more options. There are limited places – please book, see the Facebook event for details.

The rug pictured above took many months to make, but the skills needed to create something like this can be learned in an afternoon. Making rugs from old clothing and fabric offcuts is an age old tradition which is making a comeback. Now they tend to be made more for aesthetic purposes rather than the necessity of keeping a home warm, and as a artistic medium it has great scope for creating stunning designs as well as a random hotchpotch riot of colour.

Join us round the fire for an afternoon of creativity!
